Student Internships at YDTRC 

If you (or someone you know) is a high school student in New Haven and is interested in gaining valuable work experience, consider a student internship at YDTRC at The Consultation Center! Each school year and summer, YDTRC hires a few students to work alongside our staff. Duties include newsletter production, preparation of training materials and program development, and action planning.

School Year Internships:
During the school year, we hire 1-2 student interns from New Haven High Schools to work 10 hours/week through the School-to-Career Program. Summer Internships:
During the summer, YDTRC hires 1-2 interns to work 20-25 hours/week, through Youth@Work.  Youth@Work places 1,200 teens from New Haven High Schools in a variety of businesses, not only to help them earn money but also to help them gain workplace experience. Teens who participate in Youth@Work also learn resume writing, workplace etiquette, and interviewing skills. To intern at YDTRC during the summer, please contact Deborah Stewart at (203) 789-7645.

My name is Janieasha Freelove-Sewell. I graduated from Wilbur Cross High School and I was a School-to-Career Intern at The Consultation Center for two years. I did all sorts of work at my internship and had the opportunity to see all types of jobs that were done. The majority of the work that I did at The Consultation Center was for YDTRC. YDTRC was one of the many programs that make up The Consultation Center. It strives to improve the relationship between youth and adults as well as youth and other youth in organized programs. There is no limit to the activities and events that one participates in as part of YDTRC. I have traveled along with adults from YDTRC to Washington, D.C. and all over Connecticut. I have been to a National Youth Summit, Development Boards, agencies that I have never heard of, rallies and tons of other youth oriented events. Before I worked at The Consultation Center, I did not know that there were so many adults that actually cared about what youth think and what is important to us. YDTRC has changed my outlook on the world and society. I now am living proof that adults and youth can learn and work together.
