Building Exemplary
Systems for Training Youth Workers (B.E.S.T.) is a national
initiative providing technical assistance, training and
networking to community-based systems, i.e. B.E.S.T. Sites,
as they work to strengthen their capacity to train youth
workers in the concepts of youth development. B.E.S.T. is an initiative of the National Training
Institute for Community Youth Work, a division of the
Academy for Educational Development. As
one of only 20 B.E.S.T. sites in the country, we offer a
system of support for frontline youth workers in
Connecticut. YDTRC
is an approved trainer for the 30-hour Advancing Youth
Development course for frontline workers, and the 15-hour
Supervising and Managing in Youth-Serving Organizations
course for agency supervisors.
Connecticut for Community Youth Development

statewide capacity-building initiative that fosters the
development of youth ages 12 to 18 by providing training and
information to direct service workers, supervisors,
planners, youth advocates, youth funders, and program
managers in Connecticut. Connecticut is one of a
number of states seeking to promote opportunities for
adolescents, and to coordinate state-level efforts and youth
development strategies. Through CCYD, YDTRC offers training, consultation,
and technical assistance to community providers, youth
funders, state agencies, and statewide networks.

initiatives and translate new thinking into effective
programming. NEN contracts with YDTRC to offer youth
development training, including Advancing
Youth Development, our 30-hour course for youth workers,
and Supervising & Managing in Youth-Serving Organizations, our
