Each year, YDTRC offers youth leadership retreats in collaboration with non-profit organizations, schools, and after-school youth programs. The focus of these retreats is on developing youth leadership skills: what it means to be a leader, what skills make youth leaders effective, and how to cultivate these attributes. Educational sessions may also address misconceptions and stereotypes of youth, how to improve youth-adult relationships, and fundraising skills. But beyond workshops, our youth leadership retreats offer both high school students and youth workers the unique opportunity to network with peers across the state, gaining ideas and resources from one another and making new friends.
Our youth leadership retreats typically include one or two overnights. Sessions are led by trained facilitators; supervision is provided by adult advisors from participating youth organizations.
For the past two years, YDTRC and the School for Ethical Education have provided an opportunity for youth leaders to build skills and share their youth group’s strategies. This summer we sponsored M.A.D. – Making a Difference Youth Leadership Camp. This annual leadership retreat for youth leaders from across the state is open to youth leaders from diverse programs run by municipal Youth Service Bureaus, non-profit youth organizations and faith-based groups. This year’s MAD camp had youth and adult advisors from 12 different youth groups and nine communities across the state.
