Description

This unique, 15-hour training program is designed for front-line supervisors and managers at youth-serving organizations. The course consists of the following five sessions:
Session 1: Understanding the Youth Development Framework
Session 2: Core Competencies for Youth Workers & Supervisors
Session 3: Skills for Supervisors
Session 4: Working with Style Differences
Session 5: Taking Youth Development Back to the Workplace

Goals

This course aims to help managers and supervisors to:

  • Gain a solid grounding in the youth development approach.
  • Learn strategies for supervising youth development practice.
  • Assess their leadership style.
  • Sharpen their management skills.
  • Increase their cultural competency.
  • Network with professional peers.

Course Instructor

This course is facilitated by Terry Freeman, LCSW, CPP-R.

Terry Freeman is the Director of Adolescent Programs at The Consultation Center with more than 30 years of experience in education and social work. Her special interests include workplace issues and organizational change, prevention programming for youth, staff development, training, and work with groups.

Participant Selection

Registration is open to supervisors and managers in youth-serving agencies, including public and private organizations, neighborhoods, community centers, or residential programs. The course is designed to benefit front-line supervisors and managers who currently supervise staff. Participants will be selected from the initial registration list based upon the location and type of agency, as well as interest and participation by staff in the related course for youth workers, Advancing Youth Development.

Cost
