Professional Training
Do you work directly with youth or oversee youth programming? Are you interested in staff training, technical assistance or other types of support? If so, you’ve come to the right place. YDTRC offers state-of-the-art training for youth workers, supervisors, agency directors, and youth advocates who interact with other youth workers and adolescents. We also provide a wide variety of workshops, specialized trainings, and ongoing technical assistance. In addition, we frequently collaborate with youth-serving organizations on special projects.

Advancing Youth Development (AYD)
This 30-hour
course focuses on key aspects of youth development and
youth work. The
curriculum, used nationwide, was developed by the Center for
Youth Development and Policy Research, the Academy for
Educational Development and the National Network for Youth.
This 7-session course is designed for youth workers,
supervisors, agency directors, and youth advocates who
interact with other youth workers and adolescents. It is led by qualified YDTRC trainers and
co-facilitated by a diverse team of community-based adjunct
trainers.
Supervising & Managing in Youth-Serving Organizations
This 15-hour
course is designed for front-line supervisors and managers
at youth-serving organizations. The training program
consists of five weekly sessions:
- Understanding the Youth Development Framework
- Core Competencies for Youth Workers & Supervisors
- Skills for Supervisors
- Working with Style Differences
- Taking Youth Development Back to the Workplace
Developing Connecticut's Youth - One-Day Workshops
YDTRC offers a series of workshops across the State of
Connecticut. Each workshop is designed to provide a solid
introduction to youth development concepts. The day includes
a session on assessing outcomes as well as a chance to hear
from youth leaders. The target audience includes youth
workers, supervisors, agency directors, youth advocates,
planners, program managers, local leaders, and others
interested in helping youth, ages 12-18.
Youth Worker Certificate Course
This 30-credit certificate program, offered through
Gateway Community College, is designed to prepare students
for work with adolescents in a variety of settings,
including community-based and residential programs. Field
experience is an integral part of the curriculum.
Youth Development Practitioner Apprenticeship (YDPA)
YDPA is an education and training program for youth
workers. Through a structured apprenticeship program, youth
practitioners develop the skills they need to effectively
serve youth in their communities, while advancing their
career through educational credits that can be linked to
local associate and bachelor degree programs. The YDPA
Initiative, spearheaded by the Department of Labor, targets
frontline practitioners who deliver comprehensive services
to youth.
