Youth Worker Certificate Course
Gateway Community College is part of a national movement to support the development of people who work with youth ages 12 and up. With funding from the Reader’s Digest Fund and YDTRC, Gateway is the first community college in Connecticut to offer this 30-credit certificate.
The Youth Worker Certificate is designed to facilitate an understanding of adolescent development and the importance of distinct opportunities, supports and services affecting the positive outcomes of all young people. Course content prepares youth workers of all backgrounds and prior credentials to promote positive youth development and to assist youth as well as colleagues, organizations, and their local communities. Students gain valuable information about youth development program materials, exciting projects, and funding resources.
Field experience is an integral part of the curriculum and is coordinated with the seminar courses. Successful students are readily employable in diverse settings throughout the state. The Youth Worker Certificate can be applied toward an Associate Degree at Gateway Community College. It is also recognized by the Connecticut Certification Board, Inc. for credit toward certification as a Prevention Professional in our State.
