Biography:

Joy S. Kaufman, Ph.D. is the Deputy Director for Operations at The Consultation Center where she is also Director of Program and Service System Evaluation and Director of Evaluation Research. Dr. Kaufman is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry (Psychology) at Yale School of Medicine. She and her team evaluate community programs that work to ameliorate social and emotional problems for children and their families. She and her team employ a variety of methods in their work with communities to understand the impact of these programs on children and families who present with multiple risk factors including substance abuse, family violence and extreme poverty. In addition, the team works to help the community agencies and members to utilize the evaluation data to improve services. Postdoctoral fellows work with Dr. Kaufman and her team to understand the impact of risk factors on outcomes and how these risk factors (e.g., substance abuse) impact the trajectory of the children receiving services.

Dr. Kaufman's research interest has two foci, evaluation methodology and the impact of risk factors such as substance abuse, violence and extreme poverty on children and their families.
